David Braslow is a doctoral candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education studying education policy and teacher development. With 12 years of teaching and tutoring experience, and 99th percentile GMAT and GRE scores, David is an education powerhouse.
David started out as a math guy, and has worked tirelessly to use his knowledge and love of math to improve students’ lives. After graduating from Brown University with a dual degree in Applied Math and Education Studies, he taught math in NYC public high schools through the Math for America program. David incorporated technology into his classes before it was cool, teaching coding in his math classes and designing hybrid live-online courses. Realizing he could have a broader impact doing quantitative research, David went back to school for his master’s and, now, his doctorate.
David believes that all students can thrive in the context of a strong relationship, where students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and learning from mistakes. His approach is very interactive, asking lots of questions and structuring activities to help students figure out how to solve problems for themselves, rather than simply showing them what to do. David focuses on developing not just procedural fluency, but also understanding of the underlying concepts so that students build a strong foundation for their future learning.
When he is not writing, teaching, or doing statistics, David spends time playing strategy games (from Agricola to Zooloretto) and rock climbing.
