dilemma in verbal part

Dear Stacy, I'm an international student who took gmat for 4 times. Before I came to US, I took 3 times and got basically the same score every time(q50, v20-23). I'm not surprise with the score because it was difficult for me to understand the sentences fast and correctly. And I got only about 50% o...

Re: dilemma in verbal part

Thank you so much for your patient reply. For time issue, my average speed is SC 1.5min, CR&RC 2 min. In the exam, I finished all quesitons. The pace is fine, although I accelerated for one or two times on half of the exam to catch up with the pace. For the careless mistake, I didn't make many c...

Re: SC:is descended or has descended ?

Hi Ron, I have a question about E, the clause before "and" is in present tense, while that after is in past tense. I assume that the two clauses should be in the same tense. There is no legitimate reason to use present to describe sth happened and finished in the past. Thanks a million~ &...

Re: SC:is descended or has descended ?

Hi Ron, Sorry for the confusement. I was actually asking a question about the explanation below. If the clause before and after 'and' are all actions instead of conditions, should the tense be the same? Because I remember in most questions I have done, the tense before and after "and" ar...

Re: thirteen colonies

Hi Ron,
I eliminate ADE at the very beginning because I see "that set forth" as non-underlied part. So, I think the noun before this part should be plural or else it should be "sets".

Would you be so kind to tell me why I'm wrong? I can't figure out.

Thank you so much!

Re: can somebody help me out with this question?

Hi Ron, I'm confused about B/E. For B, what two things are actually being compared? number and number? Or people and people? For E, I understand that "ones" cannot refer to people, but isn't it necessary to have "those"? Or else, I really don't know what "seven people" ...

Re: Kernland imposes a high tariff on the export of unprocessed

Hi instructor,

Can you explain C? I choose it because not many people process cashchew in urban areas, so it won't affect the unemployment that much.

Thank you.

Re: After several years of rapid growth

Hi, Ron: I chose the correct answer E since I thought there was an omitted "was" (passive voice) in the sentence. Like this: "After several years of rapid growth, the healthy care company became one of the largest health care providers in the metropolitan area, but then was proved unable to handle...

Re: Just like the background in art history . . .

Hi Ron,

For A/D,
Is Just like A, B or like A, so B do correct?
Can you talk a little about the use of "like" as a sign of parallel?

Thank you!

Re: a new hair-growth drug is being

Hi Ron,

I choose E becasue I know that it should be "three times the + something". "which" refers to price. And I think it should be drug's maker charges at a price. So, there should be an "at".

Can you help me find out what's wrong with my logic?

Thanks a lot!

Re: Gmat

Hi instructor, I choose A according to the imply of "their/them", so I just want to make sure my idea is correct. B:their is unclear. It could refer to patterns or currents. C:their and them both refer to currents. But "their patterns and the causes of them" is akward because the...

Re: SC: Faulty voting euipment, confusing ballots, voter error,

Hi Ron,

You mentioned that in A, "they" has no reference. But can "A. Faulty voting equipment, confusing ballots, voter error, and problems at polling places " be the antecedent? That's what I think. Please correct me.

Thank you so much!

Re: Heavy commitment by an executive to a course of action

Why can't we use " ones " here after "misinterpreting"? I know "them" is fine, but don't know why "ones" is not acceptable? Please elaborate on the above two questions. Thank you very much , Ron. Mutually exclusive. "Them" = the same things/people t...

Re: scientists have dated sharp-edged flakes of stone found in

Hi instructors,

In A/B, does "it" refer to "that humans made stone tools"?
I'm a little confused because I can't find antecedent of "it". But this usage sounds good.

Thanks a lot!
