{"id":3280,"date":"2012-03-02T12:15:24","date_gmt":"2012-03-02T17:15:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manhattanprep.com\/gre\/blog\/?p=3280"},"modified":"2019-08-30T16:45:11","modified_gmt":"2019-08-30T16:45:11","slug":"a-bit-of-grad-school-related-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.manhattanprep.com\/gre\/blog\/a-bit-of-grad-school-related-fun\/","title":{"rendered":"A Bit of Grad School Related Fun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here at Manhattan GRE, we receive a lot of Grad School jokes, most of which are fairly lackluster.\u00a0 However, we recently came across this LCD Soundsystem parody video, <a href=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LrSL8hV5N8A\">Grad School, I Love You (But You&#8217;re Bringing Me Down).\u009d<\/a>\u00a0 Something about this video drew us in, so we decided to share it with you.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of great elements to this video.\u00a0 While the singer can&#8217;t quite hit the high notes, the puppetry is really fun to watch, and I love <a href=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-eohHwsplvY\">the source song<\/a>.\u00a0 Most of all, I think the reason this video spoke to so many of us in the office is that the lyrics are quite clever (despite some of the biology lab jokes going completely over my head).<\/p>\n<p>This video takes a playful look at a few of the complexities of grad school.\u00a0 The parody skewers grad school&#8217;s extreme workload, a <a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/neophyte\">neophyte<\/a> grad student <a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/quailing\">quailing<\/a> at newfound academic challenges, and the financial burden that higher education can present.\u00a0 (Also, the song uses the word <a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/non+potable+\">non potable<\/a>, which is a good GRE vocabulary word!)<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s true, grad school can be tough.
