As in, <em>You&#8217;re looking hale today<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/hearty\">Hearty<\/a> has nine different definitions, according to Random House Dictionary:<\/p>\n<ul><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/www.manhattanprep.com\/gre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2010\/03\/hh-logo-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"hh_logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" align=\"right\" \/>1. warm-hearted; affectionate; cordial; jovial: a hearty welcome.<br \/>\n2. genuine; sincere; heartfelt: hearty approval; hearty dislike.<br \/>\n3. completely devoted; wholehearted: hearty support.<br \/>\n4. exuberant; unrestrained: hearty laughter.<br \/>\n5. violent; forceful: a hearty push; a hearty kick.<br \/>\n6. physically vigorous; strong and well: hale and hearty.<br \/>\n7. substantial; abundant; nourishing: a hearty meal.<br \/>\n8. enjoying or requiring abundant food: a hearty appetite.<br \/>\n9. (of soil) fertile.<\/ul>\n<p>It seems #7 is the definition most suitable to the New York City soup chain whose logo appears above.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, <em>hearty<\/em> is easily confused with <a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/hardy\">hardy<\/a>, which means <em>sturdy, strong, courageous, vigorous, or capable of enduring hardship<\/em>, and which appears &#8212; quite deliberately, I&#8217;m sure &#8212; in the name of <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Hardy_Boys\">The Hardy Boys<\/a>, stars of a series of adventure novels that first appeared in 1927, and in that of <A HREF=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hardy_Boyz\">The Hardy Boyz<\/A>, a WWE pro wrestling tag team.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/www.manhattanprep.com\/gre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2010\/03\/hardy-191x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"hardy\" width=\"191\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-557\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.manhattanprep.com\/gre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2010\/03\/hardy-191x300.jpg 191w, https:\/\/www.manhattanprep.com\/gre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2010\/03\/hardy.jpg 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 191px) 100vw, 191px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hale means healthy, vigorous, robust.
