Thus: a terrible name for a nightclub, but a pretty good name for a horror movie.<\/p>\n<p>The more versatile word <a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/vertiginous\">vertiginous<\/a> can be used to refer to anything liable to cause vertigo (either literally or metaphorically).  For instance:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The fiftieth-floor apartment was a great deal, but she couldn&#8217;t take the <em>vertiginous<\/em> heights.<\/p>\n<p>Successful traders are those who can control their emotions even in a <em>vertiginous<\/em> financial environment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On a somewhat related note, the word <a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/vortical\">vortical<\/a> (not a typo!) means &#8220;relating to a vortex.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s film selection is a classic: Alfred Hitchcock&#8217;s Vertigo.
