When that happens, one useful strategy is to try to ferret out whether the unknown words have positive or negative connotations.  You can do this using roots, your knowledge of similar words in English or Romance languages, or just your &#8220;gut&#8221; feeling.<\/p>\n<p>Decide whether each word is positive, negative, or neutral, then click &#8220;more.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>MERETRICIOUS<br \/>\nCROTCHETY<br \/>\nMAGNANIMOUS<br \/>\nCAJOLE<br \/>\nTERRIGENOUS<br \/>\nDULCET<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/MERETRICIOUS\">MERETRICIOUS<\/a> is negative.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/crotchety\">CROTCHETY<\/a> is negative.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/MAGNANIMOUS\">MAGNANIMOUS<\/a> is positive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/cajole\">CAJOLE<\/a> is negative.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/TERRIGENOUS\">TERRIGENOUS<\/a> is neutral.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/sonorous\">SONOROUS<\/a> is positive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/dulcet\">DULCET<\/a> is positive.  If you&#8217;ve ever had<em> dulce de leche<\/em>, you could&#8217;ve guessed this one.<\/p>\n<p>Using positive and negative connotations is, of course, a backup plan, but since you have to answer every question on the GRE (you&#8217;re not allowed to leave anything blank), even a gut feeling is better than nothing.
