by navoneel_pal Mon Jun 22, 2009 2:34 pm

First attempt.
GMAT 640
Q-49(88%) V-28(48%)
AWA-4.5

2nd Attempt. (I had posted for my profile evaluation earlier and agreed to retake the GMAT)
GMAT 660 (83%)
Q-49 (88%) V-31(58%)
AWA-4.5

Please find My Profile below----------------------------

electronics and telecomm engineering graduate GPA- 7.66/10

Total wrk experience -2 years (as of June 08 ,2009)

Indian -23-working as a Peoplesoft ERP consultant for 2 yrs in IBM India
worked in Finance modules for 20 months and HR modules for 4 months

Job roles - Understanding, implementing and designing business processes as per client requrements, proposing and delivering solutions to clients, interacting with clients (didnot play a client facing role . only interacted through mail / telephonic conversations).
Have worked in Peoplesoft General Ledger,Asset managment,Accounts Payable,Travel and

Expenses,Purchasing,Project Costing modules. Have designed/re-designed several monthly accrual processes in Finance.
Currently working on HR modules - Benefit enrollments, core HR and Payroll. Have a clear functional knowledge of those modules mentioned above and it was my work in finance modules encouraged me to know more by doing an MBA.

Achievements/Accomplishments:
Have proposed 2 business process improvement ideas to client as a part of "Ideas" program in IBM.Out of those 1 has been implemented and 1 is under review.

Extra curriculars other than Job roles: Have been a route leader for the transportation facility for employees in IBM for a location.

Have participated in a national level Business Idea competition hosted by Economic times(a financial daily newspaper in India)and submitted 2 business ideas online. i am interested in enterpreunership and while preparing those business ideas, I felt that all I needed was knowledge regarding how to shape up an idea in order to turn it into a real business. I wish an MBA would fill up this gap.

Community services - Have been once involved in an education initiative organised by a local NGO for children living in poverty. Taught in a school for underpriviledged children..Organising food supplies, healthcare and other resources for them were also a part of that activity.

Community activities - Have organised quizzes and debates as a part of annual recreational programs conducted by a local literary body, every year since 15 years of age. (However such regarding those activities , I am not able to submit any documental proof. Please let me know how worth is it without a proof?)

I had been trying to find out my chances in any of these colleges:
1) Rotman School of Management, Toronto
2) ESADE Business School, Spain
3) Lancaster University Management School, Uk
4) Manchester Business School, UK
5) Warwick Business School, UK
6) Boston University (MBA, MS-MBA)

Please let me know my chances (if any) in these colleges also recommend me some colleges if you feel. My GMAT score is low, and retaking it is not an option for me.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi,
Thanks for following up.

First of all, congrats on the improvement in your GMAT score.

We do not have extensive experience in assisting candidates with all of these schools (In terms of international schools, we do have experience with INSEAD, IMD, Cambridge, Oxford and LBS). However, it seems as though your candidacy would be competitive for several of the schools on your list. Your GMAT score may still be on the low side for some of the programs and some of the European schools tend to be populated by students with an average of 4-5 years work experience (at the time of entering you would have three). This is not to say that you should not apply...

Regarding "proof" for your community service work. No such documentation should be needed; however, you should provide all detail, contact information, etc. if asked in the application.

Regards,
Erin

Can you please let me know on which US schools I can focus, apart from the list I mentioned above ? Since I am from IT backgorund, I am particularly interested in MS-MBA at Boston University as the course curriculum says it deals with management intergration with technology.

A small information change ..... My second GMAT AWA score was 5 and not 4.5 as I mentioned earlier....Sorry for that.

Please let me know your thoughts....

Thanks in Advance

Hi -

In terms of US programs, sounds like you want to target those schools that offer MS-MBA degrees, so you may want to spend some time looking into the programs and deciding which ones appeal to you most. With that in mind, I'd focus on schools in the 20-30th ranking spots from a ranking grid like Business Week.

I hope this helps.

Erin

Thanks again for your response.....

I had a doubt about B school application essays:

Can I discuss in my essays about a few business ideas that i wish to materialize in near future or would it look awkward? What will get reflected in my essays in such a condition ? Would it reflect distinct positivity or would it be an object of a laughing stock ?

I am also planning to start a real esate website with a friend of mine.

I think mentioning these in my essays could help the adcom to know more about my interests and long term goals.

What are your thoughts on this?

It will be best if your essays are focused on your actual experiences/accomplishments and not what you hope to do in the near future. Remember, your prior experiences are indicative of your future success, so you want to detail stories that allow the admissions committee to see your leadership style in action.

In your essay related to your career goals however, you will definitely need to discuss your future aspirations. Please refer to our personal statement guide for tips on how to approach the personal statement: http://www.mbamission.com/docs/mbamissi ... _guide.pdf

Best of luck!

Hello,

Yes, you can certainly write about your business in the essay questions. Depending on your experiences, you may be able to write about it from a variety of perspectives, including accomplishments, lessons learned from mistakes or leading a team. Good luck!

Sincerely,
