EIV 4th edition, p. 93

for the optimization problem that starts halfway down page 93, i'm confused by the wording of the question. The question says: If -4<= m <= 7 and -3 < n < 10, what is the maximum possible integer value for m - n? then in the table towards the bottom of the page, the answer is highlighted...

cr 4th edition ch. 4 #10 - movie money - find the assumption

p. 72, #10 Studio executives carefully examine how a film performs on its opening weekend in order to determine whether - and how - to invest more in that film. Many decisions, such as increasing the number of screens that show the film and expanding the marketing campaign, are best made after react...

Re: CR Guide - Studio executives carefully examine how...

So initially i was stuck between A and D. I eventually chose D b/c A has the word Never, which is extreme, and in a previous chapter, i read that extreme words can be in the answer if the same extreme word is in the argument, i believe that is stated in chapter 3. I do understand how the LEN works f...

Re: CR Guide - Studio executives carefully examine how...

i clearly stated that LEN works for choice D works as well. all i'm asking for is the reasoning behind A versus D. no other reply has mentioned that, therefore that is why i posed the question i will post the exact page number later when i have the book in front of me also, since this is a find the ...

Re: CR Guide - Studio executives carefully examine how...

thank you jamie for posting a helpful reply. to tim: on page 51, at the bottom of the page of the critical reasoning book, 4th edition, the last paragraph states that extreme words can be in correct answer but they must be the same extreme word or equivalent must be in the original argument. jamie e...

remainder problem - NP ch. 10 q. 23

you're given background info, integer x has a remainder of 5 when divided by 9, integer y has a remainder of 7 when divided by 9 question: what is the remainder when 5x - y is divided by 9? i solved this by picking numbers, but i think that it's probably inefficient. i did 2 examples and made sure i...

Re: Reiko's Trip - DS Question.

Does that mean that either of the two directions-A to B OR B to A would be (80 miles)/(LESS than total time for round trip) BECAUSE GMAT does not consider instant travel? i agree with this. what if A to B was less than 40 mph and B to A was greater than 40 mph. statement 1 doesnt clarify which leg ...

Re: CR: The average hourly wage of television assemblers in Vern

Source: beatthegmat Why C is correct, and the other choices not???? The average hourly wage of television assemblers in Vernland has long been significantly lower than that in neighboring Borodia. Since Borodia dropped all tariffs on Vernlandian televisions three years ago, the number of television...

Re: CR: The average hourly wage of television assemblers in Vern

There's probably not one, perfect answer to your question, but very often, you can take the main verb of the sentence and put a not in front of it, or otherwise try to find its opposite. I agree that you have to be careful here, but remember that the opposite of something happening is not something...

Re: If Jim earns x dollars per hour, it will take him

i understand that the 2 equations method is easier to solve and understand, but reading the explanation on the CAT, i am getting a different answer. CAT explanation says: Since Time = Work/Rate, Time = 1 jacket/(9/20 jackets per hour) = 20/9 hours. Since the combined pay rate of the Jim and Tom is e...

Re: Weaken : "Farmers in developing countries"

it seems that the farmers are making 2 claims, first, American farmers would produce only the amount of wheat that they could sell on the open market and the 2nd claim is the global price of wheat would rise. because the question part says "Which of the following, if true, most weakens the clai...

number properties guide question in text of ch. 8 DS

hi, there is a problem in ch. 8 of number properties that i'm having trouble solving. it is within the chapter and says: Is x^2 <= to 2x? 1) x > 0 2) x < 3 the text goes on to solve this by plugging numbers, but is there a way to solve this algebraically? just to be clear, i'm trying to exp...
