If a number is not divisible by 2...

If a number is not divisible by 2, then it wouldn't be divisible by 4, 6, or 8 either, right? -Thanks!

5th Ed. Word Problems, p. 35 I understand how to solve this problem using a combined equation (.5r x 8/3 = 40) but wanted to see if solving in a more traditional way would work too. I tried solving one of the two equations for d and plugging it into the other and kept coming up with a negative numbe...

Hi - Thanks for all this insight. Can someone please explain to me why you don't use x as a variable attached to both ratios - only to one? i.e. why isn't the equation set up as follows?: (5x - 10) / (3x + 10) = 7x / 5x I think it has to do with the multiplier being different once the exchange is ma...
