Is W greater than 1?

Is W greater than 1?
(1) W + 2 > 0
(2) w^2 > 1

Answer is E.

I guessed C as w > -2 and w is either W<-1 or W>1. If W must be greater than -2, it can't be less than -1 but would need to be greater than 1.

I'm not sure why it is E.

Thanks for your help!

On the number line, the distance between x and y is greater

On the number line, the distance between x and y is greater than the distance between X and Z. Does Z lie between x and y on the number line? (1) xyz<0 (2) xy <0 The answer is E. I thought the answer was A. I see how this is a positive and negative integer problem. From (2), I believe that X i...

For which of the following functions is F(a+b) = f(a) + f(b)

For which of the following functions is F(a+b) = f(a) + f(b) for all positive numbers a and b? 1. f(x) = x^2 2. f(x) = x + 1 3. f(x) = square root of x 4. f(x) = 2 / x 5. f(x) = -3x Correct Answer: 5 (-3x) I chose x + 1. I was utterly baffled by this one as I don't understand how the f(a + b) functi...

Re: On the number line, the distance between x and y is greater

I'm sorry. That was typo. I thought the answer was C. When I look at again. I'm thinking this: (1) You know that either x, y, or z is negative or that all three are negative. Insufficient. (2) It doesn't tell us anything about z. Insufficient. From 1 and 2, you know that x or y need to be positive. ...
