Re: Tough SC: Approved April 24, 1800, the act of Congress that

I was rather confused about the word"also" in option A. For me, it is a strong indication that "established" and "made" are parallel, thus making the whole sentence incomplete. That's all the reason why I rule A out. So here why don't we take this factor into considerat...

to be equally...as...

I have come across the structure " X is equally...as Y" several times during my preparation and I really wonder whether this structure is OK in the exam. And what if there's another option "as...as".Which one should I pick?

thanks~

Re: Because there are provisions.....

I'm also confused about the function of the " , -ing" structure. Which part of the sentence can it modify, the subject, the preceding verb or the whole sentence? As you can see in this SC question, I think C is quite OK ,for it clearly uses the ", -ing" structure to modify the situatio...

Re: In no other historical sighting

What is the difference between C and E? Can we discard E because it does not have "in"? In other words, because it is not parallel with "In no other..."? it's actually ambiguous. the ambiguity is hard to see, especially because this choice comes last (so that the correct meaning...

Re: Verbs and Modifiers

Two main splits: (1) "Less than 35 years after" vs. "In less than (the) 35 years since." Not only is (A) 1 or 2 words shorter in this split, but the extra words in (B) and (C) don’t really serve a purpose. "In" is not necessary, as the meaning in all three is that within 35 years, the migration ...

Re: Scientists have made genetic modifications

they are already saying insecticide per ACRE...so ur reasoning is flawed. don't think u get me. the original words are " the amount of insecticide needed per acre to control insect pests was only slightly lower for those who tried the modified seed than for those who did not.". yes, the s...

Re: Scientists have made genetic modifications

wots the OA ?? Hey guys, there are always disputes between B and E. for the B-supporters, they seem to regard the modified seed as one of the other crops. Were it the case, then everything would just make sense.But...u know,it's just a little hard for me to think that way... As for D,I think you've e...

Re: Industrialization and modern methods Usage of while and but

If the "they" in " since they were developed more than 50 years ago." refers to the "Industrialization and modern methods of insect control ",isn't it a little bit weird to choose B? The use of the "that" clause to modify chemical pollutants makes me feel that...

Re: Like any star of similar mass would do, once the Sun has

I wonder if the expression" As any star of similar mass would" in D is right. shouldn't we add sth such as" As any star of similar mass would do "? besides,I have heard that when u use the "as-clause" structure, it's important to keep the two verbs( one in the as-clause...
