Re: ALICE'S TAKE-HOME PAY

Help needed please!

X: payment per month
Total income= 12 X
expenses: Y
savings: (X-Y)

12 (X-Y) = 3Y --> 12X-12Y = 3Y -> X= 5Y/4

They are asking for the savings (X-_Y)--> (X-Y)= (5Y-4Y)/4 = Y/4

What I am doing wrong?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: marble ratios

I used the following method. Please advice me if it was pure luck: A R:W = 1:3 --> Red balls = 1/4 (partial / total) W:B = 2:3 --> Red balls = 0/5 B R:W = 1:4 --> Red balls = 1/5 Then I have (1/4) + (1/5) + (0/5) = 30 The only way I can have 30 is saying that I have 5/20 + 1/5 + 0/5 --> ...

Re: If a and b are integers, and |a| > |b|, is a · |b| < a – b?

Ron, What is a good strategy for picking numbers? I miss one of the possible combination of values! I ask you because in this case a cannot be 0... but imagine a could be 0. you will have 2^3 = 8 different combinations... should we try them all in a DS prob.? Is this is likely to occur? Thank you! I...

Re: gmat prep problem is |x| = y-z?

here is perhaps a faster way to approach statement (1): if you move the "y" over to the other side, you get x = z - y. therefore, in statement (1), the QUESTION becomes, is |z - y| = y - z ? if you are comfortable with the workings of absolute values, you will realize that this statement ...
