Re: Because there are provisions.....

Apologies in advance if my question has already been answered. Why are "provisions" and "provide" in choice A redundant? I thought that provisions mean stipulations, which are items specified in a law document ("code" in this case). Can "provisions of the new code ...

Repetition of Articles

Hi GMAT Instructors, I have a general question on repetition of an article. Two examples below: Example 1: A person with a liberal education and "an" annual income of $70k can lead a good life. Is "an" before annual income required? Example 2: A person with a liberal education an...

An inquiry regarding comparison

Hi GMAT Experts, In this sentence, "prices of apples will stay higher than they usually are", is "are" used incorrectly? Should we use "do" instead, as in "prices of apples will stay higher than they usually do " so that it is parallel with "stay"? I...

Re: Shipwrecks are more likely to be found

Hi GMAT experts,

In Choice A, I understand that "they" is used incorrectly. However, is the subjective mood correct? If so, why?

In addition, would it be correct to say that "whether it be archaeologist, treasure hunter, or sport diver?"

Thank you for your help.

Re: Because there are provisions.....

Thanks Sage, but just to confirm: is the reason why you think "they" is incorrect because "they" doesn't have a clear antecedent as "they" is too far away from "provisions"?

Thanks Sage. This is based on an OG problem. I understand the rules that we're not allowed to post actual OG problems, so I changed it up to try to understand the fundamentals here. Looks like that I have focused on the incorrect splits here :)

Re: Due to automobile-related jobs in the 1920's

Can one of you GMAT experts confirm that the following items are incorrect about choice (B)? 1. "one out of every eight workers" should be followed by "was" rather than "were"? 2. "being" is used incorrectly, as it doesn't make any sense to use progressive for...

Thank you. Yes, while understanding why the other choices are incorrect, I will also pay more attention to how the correct answer choices are phrased as well.

Re: Manhattan CAT SC. Please explain the error in A

Sage - I have 2 questions on this one. 1) for A, if a relative clause is as long as that in this sentence, can we invert the structure by having "is fundamentally conservative" before "in which", just like the OG sentence below in which "builds" is put before the relati...

Re: Manhattan CAT SC. Please explain the error in A

Thanks Sage. 1) got it and thank you. 2) I was thinking that the dashes serve as commas or parentheses, but commas cannot connect 2 clauses. I guess my real question is: do you think we need a "that" before "a central body", as in "a central body that generally establishes a...

Comma as VERBed by

Hi GMAT instructors, I have a general question on the usage of "comma as VERBed by". Please see below the sentence (the original sentence is from the 1st question of GMAT Official Advanced Questions, but I have tweaked it a bit in order not to violate the rule of this forum). Marketing com...

Re: Comma as VERBed by

Thanks Sage. You're right that my example may not be perfect, but I'm still trying to understand the correct way of using "comma as VERBed" structure. For example, the sentence below should be correct, but how would you interpret the function of "as" in the sentence below? Sage i...
