Re: Prep Questions - Trans World Entertainment Corporation

Hello JustinCKN! I am a Manhattan Prep GMAT instructor. It looks like you are asking what the pronoun "they" refers to in answer choice A, is that correct? You state: in Choice A, A. that since sales of up to one-fourth of its stores are poor, they will be closed common sense tells me that...

Re: Prep Questions - Trans World Entertainment Corporation

Hello JustinCKN, I think that's a great point to raise. Sometimes you will see a pronoun that could stand in for a couple of different nouns. Ultimately, there will be some cases in which you can very logically see which noun must be the antecedent; in other cases, perhaps it will not be so clear. W...

Hello jbhB682, You have presented a solid analysis. Your goal on any SC problem is not to identify the correct answer, but rather to eliminate answer choices until you only have one remaining. This may sound like a minor difference, but it's sometimes difficult to choose the correct answer. Particul...

Hello thuyn933, Inference problems require you to use information from the passage and then make a deduction based on that information. However, we need to be cautious not to infer beyond the information that is presented in the passage! The best way to answer this question is to first understand th...

Re: Action noun parallel to concrete noun here ?

Hello JbhB682, Parallelism requires elements to be the same part of speech and be logically comparable. For example: I like cats and dogs. --> Parallel elements = cats, dogs. These are both nouns and both animals. I like cats and jumping. --> Parallel elements = cats, jumping. These are both n...

Hi JbhB682,

The sentence is saying that the $950 million purchase is part of a larger deal that's being made.

The phrase "part of" appears in every answer choice, so we can be clear that is the meaning that the author(s) intended.

The examples that you note below each offer something that my examples do not: context. It's a helping verb. It implies "have ___ed", parallel to some verb on the other side. I am now making more money than I ever have before. this example departure from #.3 John runs more than Paul has ru...

Hello JBHB682, You are correct that action nouns and concrete nouns are not technically parallel. Clear meaning and correct structure often go hand in hand, so this is good to recognize. However, structurally Ron's point is the clearer of the two to use. Declining is an adjective, but we must look a...

Re: Will not vs. would not usage

Hello yo4561, This is a great question! Will is the future tense of the present, whereas would is the future tense of the past. For example: Last week, Tim said that he would retire soon. I will go to the store today after I finish mowing the lawn. I In the examples that you provided, the first is c...

Re: Questions about "that" and "which"

Hello yo4561, (1) The sentence structure that you list below is quite common. The structure is: SUBJECT - VERB - THAT - SUBJECT - VERB The word "that" acts as a reset better so that another subject and verb can follow the first. People tend to omit this in normal speech, but grammatically ...

Re: A significant number of Unitron Corporation’s department hea
