Re: If X is positive, is x > 3 ?

Thank you for your response Please suggest if I m understanding this correctly... stmt 1: (x-1)^2 > 4 => x^2 - 2x + 1 > 4 => x(x - 2) > 3 --- equation 1 Since it is given that x is a +ve integer, we can conclude that, to satisfy the above inequality, minimum value of x should be 4. Wh...

Re: Data Sufficiency: Is |x| < 1

How come there is no 3. -Quantity1= Quantity2 Rohit, 5 mins after posting my last reply it dawned on me why (3) is non existent Because (3) yields same answer as (2) which is x = 1/3 I ll assume that (1) & (2) holds good for any such question on GMAT involving.... |something| = |something| |Qua...

Re: Jennifer: Video rental outlets in Centerville (PREP CR)

It is surpirising why B is not the correct answer

(B) In 1994 two new outlets that rent but that do not sell videos opened in Centerville.

These two new outlets that rent could have accounted for 6000 rentals. 6000 + 4000 (from Videorama) = 10000

Re: In the xy-plane, the line k passes through the origin

Chiming into Venu's version In the xy-plane, the line k passes through the origin and through the point (a,b), where ab <> 0. Is b positive? (1) The slope of line k is negative (2) a<b From question we get: Line k = {y-y1 = m(x - x1)} passes through origin (0,0) So line k = y-0 = m(x-0) Lin...

Re: A group of paleontologists recently announced that a site

Regarding - DBERNST's suggestion.... You mentioned in your post that - First, the original sentence and answer choice B use the ambiguous pronoun "they," which can refer either to fossils (correctly) or to paleontologists or dinosaurs (incorrectly). A group of paleontologists recently anno...

Re: Before scientists learned how to make a synthetic growth

Also please note In many cases, such as spell (spelt vs. spelled), learn (learnt vs. learned) , and spill (spilt vs. spilled), American English uses the regular form (spelled, learned etc), while British English tends to favor the irregular. In addition, there are a number of verbs of the type -ed ~...

Re: If x < 0, then sqrt(-x|x|) is

IF x<0, then SQRT(-x.|x|) is

|x| = -x if x<0 (GMAT given rule)
Then we get SQRT(-x.-x)
SQRT(x^2)
+/-x

But since x<0 (given)

We pick -x as answer

If x <> 0, Is x^2/|x| <1 ?? 1.X<1 2. X>-1

If x <> 0, Is x^2/|x| <1 ?? 1. X<1 2. X>-1 |x| = +x if x>=0 (GMAT given rule) |x| = -x if x<0 (ditto) Here since x<>0 (given in Q) |x| = -x Then to prove X^2/-x < 1 i.e to prove -x<1 In option 1. X<1 (not enough to prove -x<1) In option 2. X>-1 (not enough ...
