Re: Number Properties: Chapter 1 Problem Set 1

now the OR part means that a has been divided by 18 (besides 7) to give an integer, so in terms of solving it actually means

a is divisible by both 7 and 18.

Re: If 6xy=x^2y+9y, what is the value of xy?

It gets tricky here. You needn't rephrase the question.

after getting to y * (x-3)^2 = 0, use the conditions 1 and 2. You will arrive at y=0 for both cases.

1. X=-2, means y * (some number)^2=0, hence y=0
2. X<0, means y * (some number)^2=0, hence y=0

for both cases xy=0.

Re: Sequencing A for B

The set b contains FIRST x terms, hence n=1, kind of written indirectly. I was not sure which forum to post this question to, so it might have to be moved. This comes from the number properties question bank. The question states: Sequence A is defined by the equation An = 3n + 7, where n is an integ...

Re: At a certain company the avg number of years of experience

Its B, since the question only asks for the ratio of Men/Women. If it asked for exact figures, then you will need statement 1 to calculate. Let me know if this is clear, or I will post the solution.

Thanks

Re: Five Heirs: A one-million dollar inheritance...

I understand the confusion, but if then the devil is with the wordings in any word problem, and GMAT may want to trap test-takers. However, if you try to evaluate this, you would notice that the share of 3 cannot be combined as you mentioned. Take 5 people , A B C D E Say, of 100 units, D gets 30 (m...

Re: In the figure shown, the measure of angle PRS is how many ..

http://www.postimage.org/gx1Q7xni.jpg From Statement 1: Angle QPR = 30 as shown. Now, 30 + x + y = 90 and , x + z = 90 subtracting the 2 above, gives z-y=30 (Remember, we have to find the difference of the angles, not the actual values of each of the angles) Statement 2 is same as S...

Re: At a speed of 50 miles per hour, a certain car

Sara,

You have the correct answer, but incorrect approximation.

You should not decimal-ise 250/30 = 8.3, instead leave it as 25/3.

When you divide it by 12 again, you get 25 / 36.

Re: Is the integer X divisible by 36?

to find whether X is divisible by 36, X must be divisible by 4 and 9 (or infact 2 x 2 x 3 x 3, i.e. two 2's AND two 3's) if X is divisible by 12, that means X = k1 x 12 = k1 x 2 x 2 x 3, we are still missing a 3 here. Not Sufficient. (k1 is the other integer factor) if X is divisible by 9, that mean...
