Re: General Math Question (Question from Horacio Q.)

Hallo, nice to meet you. I'm quite new on this forum. For your problem, we can use conditional probability theorem : p(red)=0.6=p(red|f)p(f)+p(red|m)p(m) p(f/m)=probability of being f or m, p(red|m)=prob. having a red T-shirt knowing the gender, p(red|f)=0.7, p(red|m)=0.4 Hence, p(m)=1-p(f) and 0.6=...

Re: General Math Problem: (Provided by Horacio (instructor))

Hi, nice to meet you. I'm new on this forum.

Coming to your problem : 100 ppl. study only Spanish, and 240 study at least spanish,

hence 240-100=140 study spanish and french.

Does it make sense ?

See you.

Re: What is the ratio of x to y?

Hi, nice to meet you. I'm new here.

I suppose the ratio of x to y has to be independent of x and y :

i) x/y=2/5, ok
ii) x/y=2/7+8/(7y), depends on y

maybe this is the reason.

Re: Simplifying exponents

Hello Aditya,

could we continue the rule for

(3x^2-2y^2)=(sqrt(3)x-sqrt(2)y)(sqrt(3)x+sqrt(2)y)

but do you know if this is sometimes used to iterate further (exponents 1/2, 1/4, aso) ?? This would have no sense.
