Practice test vocabulary

by lpflexy Wed Jun 12, 2013 5:43 am

Hi Tommy/Jen,
I just took my first practice test. I got a verbal score of 164/93%, which is a lot higher than I expected(Eng. not my mother tongue). So my question is since I've been using Manhattan Prep books, flash cards etc for a little while, is the practice test somewhat biased in terms of similar vocab selection, context etc as the prep materials? Should I expect rather unpredictable and more diverse vocab on a real GRE?

thank you

Hey Lp,

As far as I know, there is no particular bias on our tests in regards to our questions. For example, I wrote a lot of our books, but I wrote very few of the questions on our tests, so it isn't as if I'd be placing vocab words I used in the books into the test. Also, we put the questions through their paces, and make sure there isn't too much redundancy or anything like that. In other words, you can trust your score (within reason, and assuming you don't suffer from some kind of terrible test anxiety that may cause you to perform badly on test day). So feel good about your great score!
