graph and equation of a parabola, any ideas?

by lorelondon2013 Tue Nov 26, 2013 2:32 am

Hi

According to a friend who recently took the GRE test, he was given a graph of a parabola and asked to identify the right quadratic equation that describes the parabola.
I personally do not remember seeing this in any of the GRE materials I have used so far, incl. Manhattan. Any ideas on how to solve such questions? Sorry, I cant give you a concrete example.

Hey Lore,

Actually, plotting parabolas doesn't require any specialized knowledge. All you need is the information on page 139 of the Geo book. Basically, you just need to test some points (typically the intercepts) and make sure the equation fits the figure as drawn.
