area of an equilateral vs isosceles triangle

by lorelondon2013 Wed Nov 27, 2013 7:23 am

Here is a Quantitative Comparison problem that I find slightly puzzling.

A
Calculate the area of an equilateral triangle whose height is 8.

B
Calculate the area of an isosceles triangle whose height is 8.

I can calculate the area of the equilateral triangle given its height; however, I dont think I can calculate the area of the isosceles one if I only know its height - I mean, it's possible if it's a right triangle, but the problem does not mention this.

Does this mean, answer is D?
I think it's an interesting problem though.

thanks again

Hey Lore,

Are you posting a question that you don't know the answer to? Where are you finding it such that you don't know the actual answer? (And yes, it would be D).
