Same score after one month of study.

by yazange Fri Jan 24, 2014 3:49 pm

On my first test, taken about a month ago, I scored Q 164 and V 162 - taken under official test conditions- even went as far as asking my roommate to check me in- ,with both essays.
I read Stacy's articles-amongst several others- on how to analyze a practice test and followed it step by step. I designed a plan to focus on my weaknesses, which, I think, are Reading Comprehension and Data Interpretation.
I took my second practice test today and to my dismay, I scored exactly the same.
My question is: Can I do anything to improve or should I just take the test?(If you think I cannot improve further.)
I don't care about the verbal, anything above a 160 is fine , but I really need at least a 167 on the math.
Although I am severely underprivileged, from very humble beginnings with very little money, I will be willing to pay someone at your company 100$ for an hour so he/she can analyze my practice test and give me some guidance moving forward. (Give me a study plan based on the analysis)
I badly need your help!.

Hey Yazange,

The typical study plan is 3 months (a class with us takes 9 weeks, often with a skip week for a holiday, and then we recommend taking 2-3 weeks after class to finish up). So not seeing improvement after 1 month isn't surprising.

The other big issue is that you need to make sure you're actually using the MAJORITY of the techniques described in the books. Oftentimes, when people study on their own, they read the techniques, but then they keep doing questions the way they were doing them before they started studying. Ask yourself how often you've CHANGED your techniques (are you making RTD charts when you do rates questions? Are you trying out numbers to prove D when doing QC questions?), and if the answer is "not often enough," then you know what to do.

Good luck!

Take Away: Adopt the better solutions in the book- ditch your inefficient methods.
Thank you Tommy.
