Algebra Drill set 5 question 5

by yiyang07 Sat Feb 22, 2014 5:02 pm

44j-11jk=0
11j(4-k)=0

2 variable 1 equation means that it shouldn't be solvable?

If j=0 k=any number
If k=4 j=any number
so it is impossible to know he exact number at same time?
Book list solution as j=0 AND/OR k=4 that is true statement but doesn't really solve the problem since it has infinite solutions?

xy=0
one or both is 0 but that doesnt really solve the problem does it?

Hey Yl,

Yeah, the point of that question is just to work on what you know for sure based on the equation as written. You're right that it doesn't "solve," but the question also doesn't have a definitive answer set. So it is what it is! : )
