5lb , chap-22, no-24

by anik1989 Mon Sep 08, 2014 10:44 pm

A test is scored out of 100 and the scores are divided into five quintile groups. Students are not told their scores,
but only their quintile group.

Quanti ty A

The scores of two students in the bottom quintile
group, chosen at random and added together

Quanti ty B
The score of a student in the top
quintile group, chosen at random

Hey Anik,

Is there something about the explanation in the book that didn't make sense to you? It's really helpful if you explain what it was about a given question that you didn't understand, as opposed to just having me do the question (particularly because the 5-lb. book has pretty great explanations in it!). I say that because there's no other way to "do" this aside from what the book says (i.e. consider possible break-ups of the the quintiles...1 2 3 4 5 or 10 11 12 13 14). So did that explanation not make sense?

Hey Anik,

Are explanations are always the best we are capable of giving, which is the point. If there's something about it you don't understand, I'm happy to clarify. But if you're simply asking if there's a better explanation, the answer is no.

Hope that helps!
