Hey Kp,

The sentence says that serious art doesn't present normal objects unironically. In other words, they won't just SHOW an ordinary object without trying to say something about how ordinary it is. That's because the only people who are allowed to show ordinary objects are "illustrators, package designers, and advertisers." So that means the irony is missing from the paintings.
