PT51, S1, Q1 - Almost every year the Smithfield

This is a very common argument structure. It begins with "some people propose", continues with "they’re wrong", and finishes "here’s why!" The part that says "they’re wrong" is the conclusion of the argument and everything that follows is the evidence for why the conclusion is true. So the conclusion of the argument is that it is misguided to damn the river. Answer choice (D) says this best.

(A) is what some people propose, but not ...

Q21 - If one has evidence that

I'm having trouble understanding why answer choice C is a better choice than answer choice D. I was deciding between these two and, while they both seem to exemplify the principle described in the question, I opted for D because the beneficial act illustrated in C struck me as less directly beneficial than the act illustrated in D. Is the issue that helping someone overcome an addiction may not in fact be beneficial to them, ...

Q21 - The trees always blossom

I arrived at answer A, but I am unsure why C is incorrect.

Q20 - Scientist: My research indicates

This is a strange weaken question in that it does not do what most weaken questions do and attack an assumption - the connection between a premise and the conclusion. Instead the answer correct answer calls into question the validity of a premise. For this argument, wrong answer analysis is key.

The argument states that there is a causal relationship between a specific gene variant and an inclination towards thrill-seeking. Why? Because children who tend ...

Q18 - Decentralization enables divisions of large

I do not get why answer D choice is wrong when it says "with out being overwhelmed by the details of daily operations". doesn't this mean that now they do not have to do so much daily operations meaning that they once had partial responsibility for it. And I don't understand why A can be assumed since it's assuming "more realistic planning" = maximally realistic.

Q19 - Jeff: Proposed regulations concerning

ok so jeff says, the experiment is

humans emphathize -> ban experimentation

then he goes "but all mammals can feel pain like dogs and horses" (hes assuming that, feel pain --> empathize?..this is one im also curious about)

thus the proposal should help all experimentation on all MAMMALS.

so D is the right answer, im guessing if scientists empathize with any mammal just as much as they do dogs, then that fulfills the sufficient condition ...

PT 58, S3, Q19, Anyone who believes in democracy...

Great example of a tough problem that can be easily solved with the correct approach to logical diagramming. These "if assumed" questions are best approached as a sort of connect-the-dots game. Here are the important elements:

if one believes in democracy ----> one has high regard for wisdom of masses

Griley is an elitist.
Griley believes: unpopular artwork is unlikely to be good

Conclusion: Griley does not believe in democracy.

Notice that the only piece ...

Q16 - Madden: Industrialists address

We need to boil this long argument down to more manageable pieces if we're going to be able to recognize the principles in the answer choices.

The important points are these:
1. industrialists address problems by simplifying them...
2. in farming, these usually lead to oversimplification (a bad thing)
3. example: water retention and drainage
4. more farming problems are created than solved when ag is the domain of the industrialist rather than the farmer. ...

Q7 - Farmer: Because water content

This is a fun little argument that has a great trap answer choice.

Our first task is to identify the discrepancy, best illustrated as two contradicting points.

1. The best way to dry corn is in sun, in the field.
2. The farmer dries his corn on a screen, in a room.

Now, if he knows that 1. is the best way, why does he use 2.? The correct choice will answer this question.

(A) ...
