Negating assumptions

If they have more than one modifier, do we negate both of them?

For example, if it says "some people get headaches and some people get fevers"

Re: Negating assumptions

So if I want to negate "The adrenaline level of children who do not have ADD is not increased by excessive sugar consumption" would be? I don't understand which one I am supposed to negate? Do I negate for the children who do not have ADD or for no increased by sugar consumption? Or can I ...

Re: HELP! Strategies/tips

When the passage organization is weak, the central arguments are more clear. When the central argument is less clear, the passage organization is strong. Focus on both and you'll have success in RC.

what do you mean by this?

Referring back to the text questions!!! Please help!

Should we read the entire paragraph when we refer back to the text for an inference or synthesis question?

Re: Q22

I had the same problem. Can someone explain this? I was thinking that paragraph 2, 3, and 4 were merely explaining a main idea in paragraph 1. So can we assume that whenever we do a main idea question, choose the answer that covers the most of the passage?

Re: Q24 - One is likely to feel comfortable

So if an answer choice stated that it fails to consider that CAS -->AA, that would be a correct answer? When a flaw question appears and there are conditional statements and there is gap (assumption) between the premise and the conclusion like CAS and AA, then is that a flaw? Does it explicitly h...

Re: Q15 - Doctor: It is wrong for medical researchers to keep th

The only way i see that C is correct is that you are bringing to light an assumption, (not)share --> delay research --> human suffer Conclusion: (not) share --> wrong so the contrapositive of that is (not) human suffer --> (not) delay research --> share(or not confidential as stated i...

Q4 - The main point

Didn't have trouble with the questions, but was wondering how to diagram "until...no" since it has two negatives. Hope this is not a dumb question T__T Stimulus: No written constitution is more than a paper with words on it until those words are both interpreted and applied. I get confused...

Re: Q18 - Professor Hartley's new book on

I was stuck between (A) and (D) too but... When I went back to the conclusion, the word "dishonest" jumped out to me. Negating (D), would destroy the conclusion: If Lawrence did get the ideas and formulations from Hartley, then Hartley would not be being "dishonest". I don't know...

Re: Unless/Except Perhaps = Until/Without?

This is regarding preptest 24 Game 4 for the last rule. Rule: V cannot be prescribed unless both H and M are prescribed. Based on the "if not" rule.. doesn't this mean: If not H & M --> not V with contrapositive V --> H or M It seems that in order to answer the questions, it has ...

Re: Q23 - Ethicist: Only when we know

This looks exactly like the reasoning on question #25 of this section. But #25 says it is flawed reasoning. Can someone explain this please?

Thank you!
