Re: Q23 - In an experiment, scientists

I want to add a bit of my thoughts on answer choice (D). This choice is wrong because it weakens the connection postulated in the stimulus: that traits of the domestic radish were passed onto their wild counterparts. It seems to present a possible problem with conclusion as it would then make the co...

Re: Q24

Hi everyone, I can see why E is best supported by the text, but I'm having trouble understanding exactly why B is incorrect. Is it because lines 55-57 (i.e. we need more research) contradict B ("The causal factors that transform group cohesion into groupthink are unique to each case")? At...

Re: Q12 - Vague laws set vague limits

Hey guys, Here's a little breakdown without bothering with conditional logic. Wrong answers: (B)- The conclusion to the stimulus says "they CANNOT feel secure"; this answer choice only says they "might not feel secure". This is WAY too weak and doesn't give us the strength of wha...

Re: Q20 - Ann will either take a leave

Hey everyone. This is a tough question but utilizing your process of elimination skills will make it considerably easier. Most of the Answer Choices can be eliminated without even worrying about the conditional logic. Check it out: (A)- Inform on her?? We have no info about how they could find out! ...

Re: Q23 - Every brick house on River Street

I usually do pretty well on parallel questions but this one tripped me up. Arg: All Brickhouse ---> Front Yard Most House ---> 2 Stories -------------------------------------------- Conc: Most BH ---> 2 Stories Answer Choices: We can whittle the choices down to (A) and (D) fairly quickly. (...

Re: Q21 - A government study indicates that raising

I'm going to post an explanation to solidify my own understanding. Much of the previous discussion has been very helpful. 1st Step: Identify the Core( I did not effectively do this which led me to choosing (B))-- Raising speed limits on high speed roads reduces the accident rate . It follows with mo...

Re: Q10 - In a vast ocean region

Here's a short explanation. So the gist of the stimulus that I got was that agricultural runoff has caused phosphorus levels to double. Consequently, more plankton grows, which leads to more oxygen because as more plankton die( if more plankton are born, more are going to die) they are eaten by bact...

Re: Q12 - Conservative: Socialists begin their

I get why E is correct but i'm still not sold on why B is wrong. If all historical events are contingent and could have occured otherwise than they actually did it would be impossible to say definitively that outcomes in history were inevitable which is precisely what socialist try to argue for thr...

Re: Q21 - If the city starts requiring residents

I originally picked B, but now see that it isn't necessarily supported. Just because there's a policy / law / mandate doesn't necessarily mean people will follow it. Also, it could be people other than residents who are doing the sorting (robots, etc.). Also, they could be recycling by other means ...

Hey just wanted to post up a little tip with this sufficient assumption question. This by no means is the best way to do this, but for those in a time crunch which might be the case here since this is Q. 20. Anyways, notice that the conclusion introduces a new term which is 'maintain the quality of...

I figured writing this out would help solidify my own understanding. The argument can be boiled down to: Conclusion If outdoor advertising is reduced, then the overall volume of business is reduced. Premises: Businesses that utilized outdoor advertising have a larger market share than those who do n...

Re: Q19 - Professor: Economists argue that

Despite the above explanations, I am struggling to see why D doesn't weaken more than E? If the odds of being paid out insurance are higher than lottery. Doesn't that show how lottery and insurance are different (lottery bad and insurance good)? Therefore weakening. This is a comparison flaw, D is ...

Re: Q19 - A tree’s age can be determined

This is a tough one. So the amount of rings corresponds to the age of trees. Researchers used the amount of rings in trees used to build tombs to determine the relative age of the tombs. The relative age of the tombs basically means how much younger or old are the tombs in comparison to one another,...

Re: Q1 - The city's center for disease

To the above poster: it seems that in this problem we are supposed to resolve the discrepancy between two seemingly contradictory premises in order to strengthen or weaken the conclusion. That's a good question, I'd be interested in an answer. Ok, here we go: The Rabies epidemic is getting worse as ...

Re: Q19 - Each year, an official estimate of the stock of cod

I missed this one but on further blind review got it correct. So basically, Each year an official estimate of the amount of cod that can be caught by fisherman is computed. This estimate is computed by averaging two separate rates: 1) The amount of cod caught by research vessels during a once-a-year...

Re: Q19 - In the decade from the mid-1980s

Alright, so two surveys were conducted. The one conducted in 1984 was done before economic turmoil. The one conducted in 1994 was conducted during or after the economic turmoil that happened after 1984. Why is it the case the people in 1994, who were plagued by economic turmoil, have a similiar perc...

Re: Q24 - When the rate of inflation

Alright, this problem is really tough. Many of the explanation seem really complicated too(the subject matter/jargon is really throwing me off) and I still don't feel entirely clear so I'll attempt to write out my thought process. So "Rate of Inflation" - "Rate of Return" for the...

Re: Q24 - Anthropologists assert that cultures

Re: Q12 - Politician: My opponents argue

Thanks for the explanations. Here's the way I thought about it: I'm looking for a term contained in the answer choices that is used atleast two times. By using a term atleast two times, a difference can be seen in the usage to determine where it was used in a misleading and or inconsistent way, (A)-...

Re: Q13 - Five years ago, during the first North

I'll explain why (D) is the correct answer. The death rate from the disease on all reported cases of the disease used to be 5 % but is now 18%. Since this is a weaken question, we need to be on the lookout for alternate explanations. Finding an alternate explanation weakens the argument by showing t...
