Re: PT59, S2, Q20 - Quality control investigator: Upon testing

I chose answer choice (C) for this one. Suppose that only a few of the sites are responsible for the defective items. It's certainly a possibility that most of the samples collected could have been taken from these sites. That would mean that that 20 percent of the samples could have been defective,...

Q20 - Sociologist: Climate and geology

I got this question wrong on my first attempt. When reviewing, I came up with the following. Please let me know if I am on the right track. Thanks. drastic shift in climate --> migrations --> ideas necessary for rapid advances in civilization The contrapositive would state: ~ideas necessary fo...

Can someone go through all of the answer choices and rule out why (A) through (D) are incorrect? I guessed on this one. And even when I took the time to try to figure it out, choices (A) through (D) just confused me. Here's how I looked at it: Premise: approximately same age --> comfortable appro...

Re: PT 61 S4 Q11 A development company

I agree with kimyooji and thought of it in the same way. Here's how I approached it... Premise: MAJORITY FAVORS --> AIRPORT BUILT Let's take the contrapositive of the premise so that we have it handy. AIRPORT NOT BUILT --> MAJORITY DOES NOT FAVOR Conclusion: Unlikely that majority will favor, ...

Re: Q23 - This year a flood

This year, a majority of Hollyville's residents responded to a flood in another town. This majority of Hollyville residents is a higher proportion of Hollyville residents than the proportion of Hollyville residents who responded to an earthquake a few years ago. Last year , Hollyville itself had a d...

Re: Q14 - Economist: A country's trade deficit

Trade deficit does not weaken economy. So, there's no need to try to restrict imports to reduce trade deficit because, again, the trade deficit does not weaken the economy. We'd be doing something, restricting import, which will not weaken the economy. That's like putting a thermometer in cold water...

Re: Q20 - The peppered moth avoids

This is nasty. I was going between (C) and (E) and went with (E). I didn't even consider (D). Let me see if I can make sense of this in retrospect. lightest moths = greatest contrast = most likely to be eaten by predators So, it follows that... darkest moths = ______________ = least likely to be eat...

Re: Q8 - The more modern archaeologists learn

The argument really hinges on the following: The writings of Mayan religious scribes were mathematically very competent. Therefore Ancient Mayans in general had a solid grasp of sophisticated mathematical concepts. How can we make such a broad statement about Ancient Mayans in general just from anal...

Re: Q3 - Despite the enormous number of transactions

Breaking down the stimulus... 1) Banks process zillions of transactions today. 2) But if your account is accidentally credited with a large sum of money, the bank will somehow, via its internal audit procedure, detect this error. Look at (A) and (D) a bit closer. (D) really isn't that strong. The ra...

Re: Q1 - New technologies that promise to extend

I just did this problem like twenty minutes ago, so I'll give you my interpretation of why (A) is better than (B). Though, to be honest, I was really tempted by (C). Let's break down the stimulus... New technology that can extend life and decrease pain requires extensive scientific research. Investm...

Re: PT 11, S2, Q23 A group of scientists studying calcium

No problem. Let's take a look. Re: Q6 - When a nation is on

The question sets up two somewhat parallel situations: 1) Free-market principles are not violated when limitations are imposed on foreign investors/lenders to prevent the harm of economic collapse. 2) Free speech is not violated when limitations are imposed to prevent the harm that can occur as a re...

Q6 - Deirdre: Many philosophers have argued

I narrowed this question down to choices (B) and (C). I incorrectly chose (B). Here's what I don't seem to understand about (C)... Deirdre does indeed shift the meaning of happiness throughout the course of the argument. "Many philosophers" describe happiness as fully living up to one's po...

Q23 - Historians of North American

This one is troubling me. I chose (E) because it reinforces the idea that the larger houses were for the rich.

The correct answer is (C). Can we please go over this? Thanks.

Let me give it a shot before the experts chime in... Premise #1: The population of the driving age has increased over the past 5 years. Premise #2: The number of FATALITIES has declined. Conclusion: We have more skillful drivers than five years ago. Remember, we are judging the skill level of driver...

Q15 - Goodbody, Inc., is in the process

I narrowed this question down to choices (A) and (E). Choice (A): the businesses impacted by the recession can take advantage of lower rents outside the financial center. So, this makes sense. But, how are we to know that Goodbody will have those lower rents? What if other buildings have lower rents...

I have no idea if I'm doing this correctly. Can someone please try to follow this reasoning and possibly correct it? Conditional Statements: 1.
