Re: Q19

How do we choose? Well the passage said that superior chess players won't have exceptional memory if they're looking at a configuration of pieces that's not typical. So an "atypical" configuration of pieces IS a kind of arrangement of chess pieces. (A) is talking about a series of moves, ...

Re: Q15 - People who have doctorates

I think this might help

(answer choice E) “Only A are B.” = B → A

(answer choice C) “The only A are B.” = A → B

Any geeks please check my logic.

Re: Q21 - In response to high mortality

I am still confused as to how one can answer about the resumption of higher number of deaths. I get that Answer A weakens the unnecessary risk incurred but how will it answer the mystery of the rise of deaths when elective surgery resumed. I mean it is a fact that more deaths happened with the resu...

Re: Q25 - The availability of television reduces the amount of r

Not sure if this is still necessary, but -- I paraphrased the stimulus: When X is absent, Y increases. When X is present, Y does not increase. Thus, X causes/reduces/affects the amount of Y. This is classic correlation/causation fallacy by usage of inverse reasoning. In particular, the author has tr...

Re: Q17 - Critics worry that pessimistic

I would also rule out (B) just because it's out-of-scope from the subject matter. We're talking about the economy, who knows that the author would say about foreign policy.

Re: Q6

I was between (A) and (D) and knew that (A) felt too narrow and (D) felt correct / typical Main Point language , but I couldn't shake off the fact that the passage actually never says explicitly whether or not Gluck writes on universal themes herself... That felt like an inference. Gluck has definit...

Re: Q19 - Young people believe efforts to reduce pollution

so is this argument making assunption within only the conclusion? usually assumption is made between premise and conclusion but it seems B is the assumption bridging two ideas in the conclusion? Well, you could see it as bridging a premise and a conclusion, still. I saw this stimulus in vaguely two...

Re: Q11

TLDR: The film director wants to highlight ordinariness. Cameron wants to transcend ordinariness. (E) is actually really tricky and warrants a longer response. I thought about the ordinary sitters in relation to the ordinary actors. And thought about the "appearance" of a documentary"...

Re: Q12 - global warming in rocky mountain

Hello, I just wanted to ask a quick question - I was a bit wary about B because it talks about “other mountains regions” and not specifically about the Rocky Mountains that the premise talks about. I am usually vary wary of answer choices that do not accurately match the specific wording of the tex...

Re: Q25 - New evidence indicates that recent property developeme

But the previous poster noted that a species could have been eliminated as long as another one emerged in its place, so maybe not. Like, swans could have been decimated but another species emerged. (A) does NOT get rid of that possibility because it just tells us that the same number of species wer...

Re: Q22 - Columnist: There are certain pesticides

Hello, here are my thoughts and questions on B and D. I also focused on the key terms "greatly" and "often." For B: I understand why B would be wrong when looking at ohthatpatrick's post because B would seem irrelevant to whether or not the banned pesticides are actually American...

Re: Q21 - Thirty years ago, the percentage

OKAY . After hours of mulling, I think I now have it figured out. We need to know two things in order for the conclusion to follow: (1) that the AMOUNT of food and (2) the TYPE of food is the same. Why? I'll go through my reasoning as succinctly as possible. (1) AMOUNT : Like many people have said ...

Re: Q21 - A government study indicates that raising

I chose B in real time but eliminated it during review. "Traffic laws applying to high-speed roadways should apply uniformly across the nation." Okay, great. But guess what? The traffic laws aren't in place yet in the stimulus. They are proposals, not actual laws. The stimulus calls for th...

Re: Q18 - Mary, a veterinary student

This is how I quickly eliminated (C). (I actually ended up choosing (A) because I thought her actions were gratuitous, totally missed that if it was to "observe shock," it wouldn't have been gratuitous. I was pretty shocked at the graphic image the stimulus triggered and avoided re-reading...

Re: Q15 - Environmentalists who seek

The previous posts don't really clarify this question for me :| (A) and (B) were just so, utterly similar to the stimulus. So here's my breakdown, hopefully it's somewhat viable: Stim: [Subject] who has a [goal y] should do [action x]. If not, then there *will be* backlash that results in sabotaging...

Re: Q22

To add to this discussion, I have found it useful for questions like "primary purpose" to look at the sentences that immediately precede the chunk of text that they want us to look at, and usually those sentences give a good indication of what the author was trying to mean. "The chang...

Re: Q21 - Most opera singers who

I got to (E) through POE but circled it to come back to it, because I wanted to figure out why (E) was also the *right* answer. I kept thinking this stimulus was about two "most" statements, which we know mostly end up with only "some" conclusions. I now realize this is not a &qu...

Re: Q19 - The coach of the Eagles

I am a little confused about why all the explanations above are even about conditionals... Why are we giving conditional weight to the data that the author presents? The data only shows a mild correlation: The team lost only when Jennifer was not playing. The "only when J wasn't playing" s...

Re: Q19 - According to some astronomers, Earth

For Flaw questions, I know we need to weaken the reasoning rather than premises, which is why I passed by (C) on my first glance because I thought it was trying to weaken the premise/intermediate conclusion " so we can expect Earth to be struck by meteorite in near future ." (I ended up ch...

Re: Q20 - Professor: Each government should

Thank you all for the helpful posts above! For some reason, I am still stuck on A. I understand completely now why D was the right answer, since if no children benefited, then the logical link between "well-being"/beneficial to children and day care would be broken. However, the whole nega...
