Re: Errata list - Manhattan LSAT 2nd edition

Just got my 2nd editions today. Is this thread to add in some more nitpicking? on P42 of the LR book the conclusion is stated "increase in detectors from 30% to 45% does not make home fires any less likely." In my opinion, it should read "does not make detection of home fires any less...

Re: Q24 - Advertisement: Our oat bran cereal

This was one of the rarer flaws they use known as "circular reasoning." And you are right, in that the argument is inherently ridiculous. The stimulus is saying that their cereal's claims are true because health-conscious customers (HCC) buy them which proves it's true because HCC would no...

Re: Q21 - Each of the many people who

I took (D) to mean received certificate --> participated in spring cleanup. If you look at it this way, then you know you can't make that inference. It's actually the mistaken reversal of the conditions in the stimulus, not the contrapositive. The person who received the certificate could have go...

Re: Q9 - In a mature tourist market

There are 2 ways to make profits. We know we can't make more rooms or buildings, but what about the other way? We need to eliminate the second option in order to make the conclusion "cannot make a profit in Bellaria" sound. Operating at full capacity does not exclude the possibility of the...

Re: Q12 - Coffee and tea contain

The argument is broken down as: Coffee/tea --> methylxanthines --> vasopressin --> clumping of blood cells more pronounced clumping in women --> higher risk for women of complications following angioplasty We cannot assume, as (C) does, that women drink more coffee/tea. It is a sufficien...

Re: Q24 - 25 Sculpture and art

What about B for #25? If Monica's assessment of the public opinion is inaccurate, let's say reversed, then Hector's argument would be something like: Thus, if public opinion of this sculpture is what you say (that the people love it), then it certainly ought to be removed.

Is that not also a gap?

Re: Q20 - polling data reveal

I could not for the life of me figure out the flaw in the stimulus. When this happens, I am pretty screwed when looking at the answer choices because usually 2-3 of them will definitely be flawed in their own ways. Does the LR book cover a list of flaws for parallel reasoning? I think I'm up to arou...

Q17 - In practice the government will

Ok in my 2004 Deconstructed book with PTs43-45 the answer explanation given is for choice B, that governments are not necessarily correct. In the LSAT blog answer key it says the answer is C, which is a conditional statement that ends up being government says indiv. have rights --> indivs have ri...

Re: Q24 - Plant species differ in that

I just took this PT this past week actually. I'm going to try to explain a little bit just to help out my own thought processes. For the argument, it says that growth is triggered by day length, or temperature, or ELSE by a combination of both. That is, it MUST be day length (let's say A), temperatu...

Re: Q20 - It is wrong to think that the same

I had a problem with B and E as well. The modifiers really killed me here. Would Dana disagree with E? I thought so because... She would not agree that it's "sometimes" desirable. In fact, she would counter it by saying it should always be the case. Like if I argue that People should alway...

Re: PT9, S3, G3 - Three boys - Karl, Luis, and Miguel

wow I'm completely lost on this one. Where does it even say that each boy and each girl must perform in each dance? For instance, why can't the first dance be KT, MR, LT, completely leaving S out? The question only says the dance comprises 3 pairs of boys and girls? Now that I think about it, if the...

Re: Q23 - Dec 2001 - It is clear that humans during

Looking back on this question now, I can see that I was caught in the quagmire of 4 answer choices being 100% wrong. I still don't think fire pits is 100% wrong, because it does somewhat require an outside inference (what is a fire pit? and what does it have to do with lighting?) but the credited re...

Re: PT38, S4, Q23 - If an act of civil disobedience

if required by one's conscience ---> justified (B) is negated logic. We know that if one's conscience requires it, civil disobedience is justified, but we cannot infer that if one's conscience doesn't require it, the act is unjustified. (E) is negated in exactly the same way as (B). I didn't thi...

Q25 - Zachary: The term "fresco" refers

I went with C initially, because I thought that someone disagreeing with another person would surely follow up with his own, different, conclusion. Am I wrong here because I'm jumping the gun, in that something like in "A" should come BEFORE "C?" Also another question I had is I ...

Re: Q23 - Dec 2001 - It is clear that humans during

I had a really rough time going between "D" and "E." The reason was that I didn't think the LSAT would have me make some factual inference about the usage of a so-called "fire pit." I mean, I have no idea what a fire pit is but I inferred that it could help with cooking...

Q26 - Kim: The rapidly growing world

Stuck between B and D. From their statements, Hampton clearly agrees with B's reasoning, since he is pro-technology. But why can't he also agree with the statement in D? He does concede that some non-zero portion of the world's land will have to be devoted to agriculture in the future, although he q...

Re: Diagram

I'm confused about the first condition of work being done each day, combined with the initial paragraph's situation of "maximum of 3 days." How does this not just mean that all 3 days are used, since work has to be done each day? If you finish in 2 days, then there's no work done on day 3.

PT34, S4, G2, Q12

I did this problem by making 4 templates starting with KLNM,O/P and working it through. I blazed through the first 4 problems but Q12 was a bit of a time-sink. Any tips for that one with respect to speed? Other than hoping to find an answer choice that assigned speaker 3 to a non Sartre topic?

Re: Official LSAT PrepTest

I have the SuperPrep book with tests A/B/C as well, but I'm not talking about those.

It's called the Official LSAT PrepTest with Explanations book. It contains one and only one PT in it, from February 1997.

Official LSAT PrepTest, S3, Q16 - Zebra Mussels

hey couldn't find a forum with questions relating to this PT so I decided to make a topic here. I'm completely stumped on section 3, Q16 about Zebra mussels and algae. The answer choice seems like a huge extrapolation to me. Is the key really "most strongly supported," as in, the other cho...
