Re: Q11 - Unless they are used as strictly

I'm still not convinced as to why (B) is wrong. If tenants are motivated by short-term gain AND also are able to exercise political power to enact or repeal rent-control laws, doesn't it make sense that they'll have the controls repealed right when the long-term disadvantage (shortage of rental unit...

Think of it this way. Suppose they were sitting there for a few weeks, they would have had repeated exposure to sunlight. I don't think that qualifies as brief.

Re: Q8 - Early in the development of a new product line, the cri

Thanks Noah! I realized that I initially choose (B) because it supported the notion of new development projects. I didn't stick close to the text and instead of noting that the conclusion is whether the best managers should go to new development projects, I thought it was whether the company should ...

Q8 - Early in the development of a new product line, the cri

Can someone explain why (D) is right and (B) is wrong? To me, the stimulus sounded very convoluted and I think I lost track of the conclusion by the time I moved to the answer choices. I could see how (B) might be a useless fact about proportion of expenditures and (D) demonstrates no negative offse...

Re: Q7 - Currently, the city of Grimchester

I picked A and I am still confused as to why that would not fulfill both the principles? Is it because the sidewalk is "uneven" instead of having a "hole" in it? Answer choice A does state that the government officials knew about the uneven sidewalk for several years so clearly ...

Re: Q25 - A recent survey showed that 50 percent

Agreed w the above poster, I thought the flaw was A. Thgts? I think (A) is wrong because drawing a conclusion about the population in general based only on a sample, on its face, is not a flaw. It's perfectly acceptable to generalize based on a sample so long as it's representative of the whole, an...

Re: Q23 - Several carefully conducted studies

I, too, initially picked up on the correlation issue, but after reading the explanation, I feel that the correlation issue is somewhat related to the control group issue. In most stimuli that concludes causation, the author cites evidence of correlation, as is the case here. However, because this st...

Re: Q22 - Biologist: Some speculate that

Why is A wrong? (A) is wrong because it contradicts the biologist and instead supports the view he is trying to refute, i.e. that the high frequency of small goats on the islands is due to the need for genetic diversity [see the first sentence]. The biologist's view is that reproductive success, an...

Re: Q8 - Eva: A "smart highway" system

I got this question right but by process of elimination and still wasn't too convinced by (C). As a general rule, if the conclusion of an argument recommends something ("should"), I try to avoid AC's that discuss the feasibility ("can/could/possible") of the action being recommen...

Re: Q8 - Delta green ground beetles

Hi! Can someone further elaborate on why (E) is wrong? I understand the above explanation that the AC just says they were not part of "a main portion of diet," which doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't preyed on but it still stands to reason that the lack of such a predator would support th...

Re: Q16 - Chlorofluorocarbons are the best possible

I don't understand why (D) is wrong. Can someone help explain?

If CFCs are the "best possible solvents," then does it not necessarily follow that the solvents developed to replace CFC will be less effective than the CFCs themselves?

Am I missing something?

Yes! Understood! Same conclusion but different basis, and thus a different argument, as you said.

Thank you for clearing that up!

Re: Q21 - the japanese haiku is defined as

In my pre-phrase for this question, I thought that the author assumed that ignoring the syllable count implied little disrespect aka (E). So why is (E) wrong? I do see why (B) is correct but it seems to me that the author makes the assumption in (E) and thus has errs in failing to acknowledge or est...

Sorry. Can someone elaborate how or why concern for voters are out of scope. If they benefit from the lower transit fares and presumably they are taxpayers, why wouldn't they be relevant?

I think I may be confusing myself here, but if (C) is correct because it contradicts the fact that there was no difference in the blameworthiness of their behavior, then doesn't (D) also contradict that same fact? The information in (D) suggests that Alicia was blameworthy for the kind of behavior d...

Also, can anyone explain how the re-test in (D) supports the skeptics, as Brian points out above?

Re: Q17 - Samples from the floors of a rock shelter in Penn

What's wrong with (C)? Doesn't this choice deny the existence of any coal deposits that could have possibly contaminated the samples, thus weakening the skeptics' suggestion? And I'm still not clear how the stimulus implies that the uppermost samples were not affected. Is that just assumed? What par...

Re: Q19 - A tree's age can be determined by counting

I can kind of understand why the correct answer choice is right and the other answer choices are wrong, but what about the case where a tree that was planted significantly earlier than another tree, say 40 years earlier, they both have the same distinct pattern, yet the tree planted earlier only has...
