About to Register - Should I take the new GMAT

by timwoolsey Wed Jan 18, 2012 1:20 pm

I'm a Mechanical Engineer, so was thinking that the new section would be to my advantage. However, I've already bought the set of 8 strategy guides and don't want those to go to waste.

Will there be new editions of these guides released with the new GMAT, or can I just study the guides I already have along with a bit of practice for the new section?

Thanks!

We are going to release new strategy guides to coincide with the launch of the new test, yes, but you're okay with the old ones too because the old Quant and Verbal sections aren't changing at all - it's just that they're adding the new section. So you'll just need to add the IR (Integrated Reasoning) book when it comes out (I think in March or April).

It sounds like you're already on top of things, but just to make sure: the new test will launch in early June. The quant and verbal sections will remain the same. You'll only have to write one essay instead of two (the argument essay; the issue essay will be dropped permanently). And then you'll also have to take the new IR section. So you can get started studying for the quant, verbal, and essay any time you like, and then add in IR when materials for that become available.
