is this really on GMAT PREP?

i know it's in OG, but there are a handful of problems that are in both GMAT PREP and OG.

if this problem is really from GMAT PREP, then someone please post a screenshot; if not, i'll lock the thread and/or delete it.

If an answer choice would have

Neuroscientists have amassed X , and are now drawing Y.

Could that have been correct? My understanding is 'and' is used to express two equal rank items in a list ( not a cause and effect relationship) so we should have still needed having amassed ( in A)


Could this have been correct? 'and so' can be used to show cause and effect.

Neuroscientists have amassed X , and so are now drawing Y.
