Best Plan for CR Preparation

What is the most recommended plan when preparing for Critical Reasoning? My current CR background: I have read the Manhattan Guide to Critical Reasoning and have done the exercises for the main sections (BF, S/W, etc.). However, I have only noticed improvements in my question accuracy for 500-level ...

Re: GMAT Prep RC: Dendrochronology, the study of tree-ring

I dismissed E and chose C, because E had the phrase "perfect correlation", which is not discussed in the passage and C talked about the "deviation" that certain species have on the count. Can someone explain where I made a mistake?

Re: In the year following an 8-cent increase in the federal tax

Premise: cigarette tax went up by $0.08 and sales went down. Conclusion: higher cigarette costs mean fewer sales Assumption: No change in cigarette cost other than the $0.08 tax. (D) tells us that the pre-sale cost of cigarettes did not change my more than $0.08 cheaper. Because if it had, then cig...

Re: GMATPrep

Can any instructor explain whether "took" in " took 700,000 artisans more than 36 years to complete" is parallel to "created"? If not, which word is it parallel to?

Re: GMATPrep

The first fact is "it is more than 2000 years old ". So does this mean that we can have parallelism in this case, because "is more than 2000 years old" is used as an adjective and "took 700,000 artisans more than 36 years to complete" is also used as an adjective? If th...

Re: GMATPrep

Hi Ron,

Thanks for replying. I just thought that "took" was a part participle that was used to begin a participial phrase noun modifier, which is used as an adjective.

Re: GMATPrep

Hi Ron, Thanks for replying. I just thought that "took" was a part participle that was used to begin a participial phrase noun modifier, which is used as an adjective. I don't know what any of these terms (except "adjective") mean. But, "took" is the past-tense form of...

Re:

is this really an official gmatprep problem? it really, really doesn't seem like one. the only grammatically viable choice here is (e), but i don't think the gmat would juxtapose "men of science" and "women of science" like that (not to mention that the situation would be made e...

Re: Like their male counterparts

Yes, I understand that those are two different structures. Let me clarify my previous post: is this really an official gmatprep problem? it really, really doesn't seem like one. the only grammatically viable choice here is (e), but i don't think the gmat would juxtapose "men of science" an...

Re: Archaeologists in Egypt have excavated a 5,000-year-old wood

Archaeologists in Egypt have excavated a 5,000-year-old wooden hull that is the earliest surviving example of a "built" boat"”in other words, a boat constructed out of planks fitted together"”and that thus represents a major advance, in terms of boat-building technology, over the dugout logs and r...

Strategy for Correctly Answering 700+ SC Questions

In my attempt to increase my verbal score from a low V31 to a moderate V40, I have decided to focus on acing the SC section given that that section is the easiest to improve. I tend to have around a 75% accuracy on 500-level and 600-level problems. However, my accuracy on 700-level problems is about...

Re: Archaeologists in Egypt have excavated a 5,000-year-old wood

Hi Ron,

Let me clarify. Given that the verb form and tense of "represent" changes in the answer choices, I wanted to know how to pick the correct answer based on the correct usage of "represent".

Re: A Beautiful Pair(3)-CAT4

Can anyone explain where I am going wrong in my approach? P(at least one pair) = 1 - P(no pairs) P(no pairs)= (12 possible cards for first card * 10 possible cards for second card * 8 * 6)/( [12 C 4] = number of ways to choose 4 cards from 12 cards) = (12*10*8*6)/(12 C 4) However, this value is grea...
