ARE FRACTIONS EVEN OR ODD NUMBERS?

by monika_avilam Tue Apr 08, 2014 3:22 pm

Hello,

I have read in the GRE math review that even numbers are only integers; however, in the book 5 lb. Book of GRE Practice Problems in the question 35 of chapter 15 the book establishes that 2/3 is an even number.

Could you explain why?

Additionally in Wikipedia

"A formal definition of an even number is that it is an integer of the form n = 2k, where k is an integer;[3] it can then be shown that an odd number is an integer of the form n = 2k + 1. This classification applies only to integers, i.e., non-integers like 1/2 or 4.201 are neither even nor odd."

Thanks,

Hey Monika,

Nowhere there does the question say that 2/3 is an even integer. It says that 2/3 * 3 * 3 * 3 is an even integer (it's 18).

We should really pay attention. GRE demands attention when reading questions.

I'm sure she was paying attention, Kwame. It's easy to get confused. Lots to learn!
