Calculator on GRE

by zoe.c.lloyd Sat Sep 21, 2013 3:55 pm

Does the calculator on the GRE let you type in numbers or are you only allowed to use the mouse to select different numbers? I took a Princeton Review Practice test in which you could only select numbers using your mouse, which slowed me down a lot.

Hey Zoe,

On the real test, you can type the numbers, BUT I really fail to see how that would slow you down very much, honestly, for two reasons.

1) You need to be REALLY careful with your typing, so you shouldn't be going particularly fast if you do plan to type it.

2) You don't need your calculator very often on the GRE, so even if it were 25% slower to click, that shouldn't have much of an effect on your overall timing.

I want to make this clear because if this is significantly affecting your timing, that means you are overusing the calculator, which has the effect of slowing you down in the long run.

Good luck!
