Geometry Guide, Page 59, Problem 9

Instead of using the shorthand formula for the sides of an isosceles triangle, I used the Pythagorean theorem and got 4 times the square root of 48. The book lists the answer as 16 times the square root of 3. Both answers stand for the same number. Would either answer, therefore, be correct on the GRE? Thanks.

Hey Hrobak,

Technically yes, but the GRE will always simplify roots down. Therefore, the correct answer will never say something like square root of 48, because the only correct way to say that is 4 rt. 3.
