GRE Burnout

How would one deal with burnout from studying the GRE?

Hey Mohammed,

The thing to remember about studying for a standardized test is that you can't "cram". Studying should take about 10-12 weeks, no more (barring a serious language problem, in which case it might take longer), of about 8-15 hours of work a week. If you're doing more than 15 hours, you risk burnout (and even more than 12 is dangerous), so you should probably cut back.

Sometimes people try to do 20 hours a week for 3-4 weeks, but this is not an adequate replacement. The test requires you to internalize lots of new techniques, and it takes time for such things to be absorbed by the brain.

If you're burned out, take a week off. Then, when you return, don't study quite so hard, so that you can stick with it for the long haul. Good luck!
