MGMAT and MGRE

by ayush.y.vyas Tue Nov 13, 2012 8:14 am

Hello,

I have a complete set of the Manhattan GMAT books.(5th edition)

I am yet to take the GMAT and the MGMAT books are fun and briliantly writtern.

Now.....is it true that the MGMAT quants and the MGRE books contain the same material and explanation?

In case I have to purchase the MGRE (If I plan GRE too), then would I have to get them all, or do you suggest any books that are uncommon to both (GMAT and GRE)?

Let me know.....I am confused and never got a covincing answer on this on any forum.

Thanks and regards,

Achu

Hi Achu,

Thank you for your interest in Manhattan GRE. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our books!

There are some similarities between our GMAT and GRE books, although none of the guides are exactly the same. Here is what I would recommend:

MUST HAVE
Guide 6 - Quantitative Comparison and Data Interpretation
Guide 8 - Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence
These two guides are completely unique to the GRE.

SMALL OVERLAP
Guide 7 - Reading Comprehension and Essays
While some of the reading comprehension material is similar to the GMAT. There is a lot of new information in these guides.

SOME OVERLAP
Guides 1-5 (Algebra, FDP, Geometry, Number Properties, Word Problems). Many math concepts overlap on the exams, so the way we teach those concepts doesn't change much from GMAT to GRE (e.g., there is a best way to find the area of a triangle so we teach it the same way in both the GMAT and GRE geometry guides). However, the GRE guides do include GRE specific problems, so you can find new material in these books that you won't find in the GMAT versions.

I hope this helps clear things up. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Best,
Taylor
