Number Properties, 3rd edition, Easy Practice QS, p. 162

by mia.eigo Wed May 01, 2013 12:17 am

Task 8 says: The set of S consists of 4 consecutive integeers. The second term in the set is n

A
The average value of the integers in set S

B
n + 1/2

The answer says A is equal to B. My question is, is it true for negative numbers as well?

Hey Mia,

Did you try it? Or did you really post here without trying it? That is not the GRE mindset!

Set S: -2, -1, 0, 1
average = -.5
n = -1
n + 1/2 = -.5

Set S: -4, -3, -2, -1
average = -2.5
n = -3
n + 1/2 = -2.5

Always test stuff out yourself!
