Number Properties Guide 4 (3rd edition); Drill Sets (chpt 9)

by Lteoli Sun Oct 28, 2012 4:06 pm

In Drill set 3; question 33 reads y to the power -4 times z to the power of -4 and asks for the negative exponent to be written as a positive exponent (y^-4*z^-4).

The answer is listed as 1 divided by y to the power of z to the power of 4. 1/(y^z)^4. I do not understand how to get this answer. Can you please explain?

Thanks!

Hey Lteoli,

Sigh! I just got finished saying to someone else not to assume we made a typo just when something was confusing. But I think you're right in pointing this out as a typo! It should read:

1/(yz)^4

I'll send it along to our errata team. Thanks for catching it!
