Pls explain last week's quant challenge problem

by suneelonmoon Tue Aug 20, 2013 1:32 pm

Q:
James is closer in age to Gwen than to Lucille. Gwen is between 30 and 40 years old, inclusive. Lucille is less than 70 years old, and her age in years has exactly three prime factors. Which of the following could be James’ age, in years?

Indicate all such ages.

15
18
22
37
42
52
65

I have seen the explanation for the last week's challenging problem but could not figure out why we are considering only 8 and 69 ?

If the question states the age is exactly 3 prime factors , why cant i take the multiplication of 2 ,3 and 5 ? Even 2, 3 and 7 ....

Pls help .. :)

Thanks,
Suneel

Hey Suneel,

The question has actually been amended. Apparently, there was a problem with the original construction. Go check it now!

Hey Chaithu,

You can access the challenge problem archive if you've bought our books or taken a class. However, this question shouldn't be attempted as written because, as I said, it wasn't constructed correctly. It's better now! : )
