Quantitative comparison: Fundamental doubt

by santosh.b.srinivas Fri Nov 22, 2013 6:28 am

In quantitative comparisons do we make pair wise comparisons to determine larger quantity?

For example, in the below A) is 5 or 7, and B is 2 or 6. So would the answer be D?
Or would it be A because in both cases tenth digit is greater than hundredth?

Pls help.

X=1.52 or X=1.76

A) tenths digit of X
B) hundredths digit of X

Hi,
In this case 1.76 would be greater than 1.52 because here as the whole nos. are the same in both the cases so we compare the nos. after the decimal point i.e. 76 and 52.At first we should start by comparing the tenths places,here 7 and 5 ,as 7 > 5 so the former is > the later.But if the nos. would have been 1.76 and 1.72,in this case as the tenth places are same we have to proceed further to compare the hundredths places ,in this case 6 and 2,as 6 > 2 so 1.76 > 1.72.So it goes so on and so forth. Hope it helps....

Hey Santosh,

It looks like Patra did not understand your question.

Yes, in your example, the answer would be (D).

(Patra, he wasn't asking which one is bigger, he was asking whether column (A) or (B) was bigger given that we had two possible values of X with contradictory results in regards to the described digits).
