Right Leaning Board Members - Explain Answers

by esserstuart Sun Feb 10, 2013 12:33 pm

Hi, I'm really confused about the answer to this question. Please explain it in a bit more detail.

Despite pressure from right-leaning board members to__________ leftist propaganda evident in the current editorial biases, the city’s newspaper has maintained some sense of neutrality because a majority of the board understood the conservative caucus to have sham intent in trying to galvanize public opinion against the paper.

Hey There Esser,

Well, I believe this is a question we've had trouble with. I'm actually with you that there are three possible correct answers. We would expect right-leaning folks not to like left-leaning material, which would lead us to "prevent" and "inoculate against." However, "sanction" has a secondary meaning of "impose a penalty on," which would make it a legit answer choice as well.

For me "prevent" and "inoculate against" are the closest to synonyms, given that "sanction" goes a bit far (we don't know if they want a punishment/penalty assigned), so they would be the best two. If the official answer is different than that, then I think it's crazy!
