stuck on overlapping sets q

by yellowpad Sat Dec 21, 2013 3:15 am

500 consumers answered either YES or NO to the two questions of a survey. 410 answered Y to the first question and 220 answered Y to the second question. What can be the smallest number of the surveyed consumers that answered Y to both questions of the survey?

I know it's an overlapping sets problem and not sure what formula can be used to solve such questions. Some help here would be great.

Hey Yellowpad,

Well, there's no total # of people given here, so the answer is just 220. It can't be more than that, because we know that only 220 people said yes to the second question.

That's it! : )
