Using a word correcetly?

by p_gorsky Wed Nov 13, 2013 8:37 pm

Does the sentence below make sense?

He made a compelling polemic.

Hey Gorsky,

Not really, because I've never heard of someone "making" a polemic. May I ask why you ask?

My friend and I are trying to use GRE words in our everyday convo to try and use them to solidify our learning and usage. He used that as a sentence in his story and it didn't seem to make sense to me so I just wanted to clarify.

Thanks!

Hey Gorsky,

Gotcha. Yeah, I'd prefer something like, "That book is basically a polemic against marriage. I wish it had been better researched, but it sure makes a passionate case!"
