Word Usage - Abase

by n00bpron00bpron00b Mon Apr 21, 2014 1:22 am

Hi,

The dictionary meaning of the word "Abase" mostly revolves around humiliation.

- to lower, degrade, humiliate, reduce, make humble, deprive of self confidence/self esteem, put or bring down, lower physically are some of the meanings I have come across.

Could you please explain the following sentences and how does the word play it's part.

1) The model shall be mounted on abase that permits the model to be firmly and independently secured on a desk. - dictionary.com

2) After subdividing abase mesh, its vertices are projected along normal vectors towards closest sample points. - dictionary.com

3) The ordering period will include abase year with four one-year options. - dictionary.com

4) AIG is Abased in New York and was named as a nominal defendant in both lawsuits - vocabulary.com

Thanks :)

Most of those sentences are wrong. Two of them are accidentally replacing "a base" with "abase." Just focus on sentences in the dictionary, not other resources that might not have good examples! : )

Just one query

Archaic. to lower; put or bring down: He abased his head.

Here to lower, or to bring down his head is with respect to humiliation right or just lowered in a normal sense ?. The statement looks incomplete to me.

-Thanks

That is an archaic definition, so it wouldn't be tested. I promise!
