7. (C)
Question Type: Explain a Result
In test plantings, hybrid strains produced significantly higher yields. But in many parts of the world, hybrid strains have not led to increased yields. The correct answer will explain this.

Answer choice (C) provides a reason why the test plantings out-performed the actual farmers _ namely, because the testing conditions were better than the actual, real-world conditions.

(A) does not explain the discrepancy. The size of the farms is irrelevant and the fact that farms of those planting hybrid crops are smaller does not explain why the yield is lower.
(B) does not explain the discrepancy. That hybrid strains have produced higher yields in some areas is expected from the original test plantings. It does not explain why in many parts of the world they have not.
(D) is irrelevant. Taste and sales do not explain the lack of higher yields.
(E) is also irrelevant. Government subsidies do not affect yields.
