(Note: we changed the name to Foundations of GMAT Math! You like it?)

The GMAT only tests high school math, but for most of us, it’s been a long time since we’ve done that math! To get the most out of your GMAT prep, it’s best to hit the ground running, with the fundamentals of GMAT Math already reviewed. Whether you’re about to begin your GMAT prep or already in it and realizing that you need foundational math help, Foundations of GMAT Math™ can help you master the fundamentals of content, strategy, and reasoning in as little time as possible.

Foundations of GMAT Math is your one-day crash course in GMAT Math essentials, taught by one of our 99th-percentile GMAT experts. In just a single day, you’ll get a GMAT approach to math, focused on understanding the math behind the rules.

Here’s the problem that Foundations of GMAT Math solves: It can be frustrating if you’re trying to master, say, tricky GMAT exponent questions, but you haven’t yet mastered the basic exponent rules. While the small class format of our GMAT courses makes it easier for our teachers to help each student wherever he or she may be on the GMAT spectrum, we want our students working on GMAT-level math during our GMAT courses. With a rigorous, day-long review of the fundamentals and by working through the included Foundations of Math book, students should find it a lot easier to drive towards aggressive score improvement plans.

In addition to learning the fundamentals of all the math covered on the test, you’ll get The AfterMath™, our syllabus that picks up where the workshop ends. With these materials, you’ll be able to focus your work on your remaining areas of need, so you’ll be ready come test day.

We’re particularly excited about this workshop because the lessons are designed to go deeper than a simple superficial review of the rules. Each lesson is designed to get into the “why” behind the “what” of each math concept. Why get into the “why”? One interesting answer to that question is to look at what the GMAT calls its math section—it’s not called “Quant” or “Math,” it’s called “Quantitative Reasoning”—and it’s well-named. The GMAT expects us to reason, to think, not just execute math rules robotically (that’s what robots are for). If you understand the idea behind the rules, it becomes far easier to apply the rules in creative and time-saving ways. It can be surprising how our best-performing students often do less formal math than others when taking the GMAT: they know how to reason their way out of a tight spot.

Your next logical question might be How am I going to stay alert for a full day of math? We were a bit nervous ourselves, but it turns out that we don’t need to install an espresso machine at each desk. Not only do we put in frequent breaks, we keep the activities varied and—believe it or not—fun. We haven’t had a single Math in a Day injury yet ☺ and our GRE version of this workshop has been a great help to those students.

If you’re wondering whether GMAT Math in a Day is right for you, try our Math Diagnostic Quiz. If you find that you get more than a couple of questions wrong or if it takes you more than 20 minutes, we suggest you sign up.
